Aadhar card is essential an identity of a person mandatory in various things. Aadhaar is a crucial document and one must ensure that the information in one’s Aadhaar is accurate and up-to-date. An aadhaar number has to be mandatorily quoted while filing an income tax return (ITR) and while applying for a new PAN card. Other than this, if you are availing subsidy or grant from the Central and/or State government, you will have to provide your Aadhaar number. There are two ways of updating the address in your Aadhaar. One is by visiting an Aadhaar enrolment center/Aadhaar Seva Kendra and the other is updating it online by visiting the UIDAI website.
Fees required for update –
Mandatory Biometric Update: Free Demographic Update (Any type): Rs. 50/- (Inclusive of GST)Biometric Update: Rs. 100/- (Inclusive of GST)Biometric with Demographic Update: Rs 100/-(including taxes). There is no any kind of hidden charges. An update of more than one field on a single instance is considered one update. These charges are inclusive of any applicable taxes. An online payment option is also available.
Updating the details –
An Aadhaar card holder can now only change his or her name on the Aadhaar card twice, according to a UIDAI office memo. Also, you can update the Date of Birth (DOB) in your Aadhaar only once. Cases exceeding the above limit shall be considered exception cases. In such cases, residents can put an update request at Aadhaar Centre and then approach the concerned Regional Office of UIDAI for approval of the update under exception. Also, gender details can be updated only once.
Documents required for updates –
Each type of update will require some verification. For the Name, you need to scan a copy of the Proof of Identity (POI) and for the date of birth, you will require a Scanned copy of proof of date of birth. If you want to update gender, then OTP authentication via mobile. If you are going to update the address, then you should have a scanned copy of the Proof of Address (POA). If you just want to update the language, then you don’t need to submit any document for it.
You can update your name, address, DoB, and gender on your Aadhaar card online using these steps –
- Visit Self Service Update Portal (SSUP)
- Select ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’.
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and ‘CAPTCHA’ code.
- Click ‘Send OTP’ to proceed. Enter OTP sent to your registered mobile number with Aadhaar and hit ‘Login’.
- Select the field you wish to update online from the following screen. The limit to update a particular field is written next to it
- After the field(s) is selected, click on ‘Proceed’.
- A message will prompt on your screen, giving you a walkthrough of the process. Click on ‘Yes, I am aware of this and select ‘Proceed’.
- Fill out the Aadhaar update/ correction form from the following screen and upload supported documents.
- An OTP validation will be performed using your current mobile number to successfully save the update request.
- Aadhaar will verify the details before updating them on your database
